Writing Workshop

We use Lucy Calkin's program, Units of Study.
Now that we are incorporating Common Core Standards this upcoming year, things have changed a bit.
If you use Units of Study, how are you adjusting.
We have a book that supplements the new things that are in CCS. I find it hard to follow.
I want to do a good job with both next year.
I was wondering if anyone was going through the same thing.

Don't forget about the Summertime Giveaway!!!

Good Luck!!!

  1. I hear so many good things about Lucy Calkins's Units of Study. I've been trying to find a way to get my hands on one to use for next year. :)

  2. We use Lucy Calkins also and we implemented common core last year. It was a struggle to be true to the units of study with CC. We started with opinion writing and then we moved on to narratives. This allowed us to teach launching, small moments and authors as mentors in order. Next we taught non fiction which worked with CC and Lucy Calkins. We ended the year with poetry. Which s not part of CC. I taught kindergarten last year so we omitted editing and revising. It worked well for us to delay our launching until the beginning of October. We didn't do how to and all about writing until February. I hope this helps let me know iit you have any questions.

  3. I bit the bullet and shelled out my own money to buy Lucy's Units of Study. Now I know who to go to when I have stuff to talk over next year!
