Student Teachers

What are your experiences with student teachers?
Are you allowed to leave the room?
What do you have them do?
I have my second fantastic student teacher until May. I am really enjoying having her in my classroom. I am itching to get back in control though.

I am nervous~ I'm not clear on the whole leaving the room thing.... they aren't insured {I don't think}, but I do see a lot of our teachers who have them out in the hall?????Staci

  3. I had one that was HORRIBLE (had to fail her) and one that was good this past semester. However, I have come to the conclusion that I have a really hard time sitting back and watching them handle things. I'm all about helping others learn, but I have too many control issues. It took me a while to get my darlings back to how I wanted them after she left. I think I'll stick with Level 1 (once a week) interns in the future.

  5. I have a student teacher right now who is awesome! We have 4 weeks where we are suppose to let them lead teach. Our principal has given us other projects to work on so the 3 of us with student teachers in our building have pretty much felt like big bosses who come in to check up on how things are going here and there, but for the most part we are letting them run the show for now. I completely agree with Jen and the control issues. That part is hard, but I must say that I DON'T miss grading papers these days.
