Race to the Top (Freebie)

I know a lot of you have a Race to the Top game for sight words. I wanted to jazz mine up a bit for the kids. I made them a little seasonal based on the weeks we have chosen for the words.

Before I implemented the Daily 5 this year, I had them work on these in a Center. You can have them do these individually or in groups. I thought I might even put the dice up on my Smart Board.

I will have them work on these during Work on Words in Daily 5. I am going to try this out for the first time this week. I will let you know how it goes.

Fall Words. I have. Who has? Freebie!

Here is my version of I have. Who has? FALL!
We made a poster of our "Fall is...." based on an idea by Linda Holliman. I love using this technique! It is explained at the end of the download. Fall Words. I have. Who has?







I am sitting here with my feet up. I fell last Friday. Maybe broken/maybe not....HMMMM! I have to wait until November 1st to get another x-ray. Oh well, at least I am getting some school work done.
I sure do miss running though. :(

Pretzel Letters

What a fun activity!

The students ate their way through their names. They made the letters of their names with pretzels.

We had such a good time!

I usually have them make the entire alphabet. This was very frustrating for a lot of the students (and teachers). Some of the letters are very hard to make. A colleague of mine was doing the same activity and shared that she had them make their names. How silly of my not to think of this.

They had so much fun! I love this! I am going to make up a new sheet to go with it. The one I have is not very good. Let's see what I can come up with.

Naming and Action Parts

This is my first attempt at a FREEBIE!!!
This is a fun activity to put into a center. I introduce naming and action parts of sentences along with the nouns and the verbs. We talk about how important it is to make our writing interesting.
I hope this works.
The only thing I wish I had changed were the directions on the last page. Oh Well!

Dr. Seuss's Birthday

My colleague Linda and I celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday last Wednesday. We had so much fun. Our classes got together and paired up second graders and first graders. We had some stations, but for themost part they could work on their own. AND THEY DID! I can't imagine how much fun they had because Linda and I had a blast. The kids worked for almost two hours.

We downloaded this FANTASTIC unit from Rachelle Smith's whattheteacherwantsblogspot.com I highly recommend visiting her site.
They played with Oobleck, worked on goldfish patterns and graphs, made up some "new" animals, and so much more.We are planning on getting together at least once a month. It is hard to make time for fun learning. That is one of our goals this year.
