It's a Common Core Holiday HUGE UPDATE!!!

The biggest change is that I have changed it from just Christmas to December holidays.

The other big change is the pages are black and white for easier printing.

Right Smack Dab in the Middle of it All

I know a lot of you are preparing to go back to school soon. I can't get into my classroom until the last week of August. There are renovations going on in the high school, so the entire staff is in our elementary school. The high school principal is in my room.

So, half-way through summer and I'm itching to get some new products out. I had a request from Vanessa in my TpT store to make some hall passes. Thanks Vanessa!!!

Here is my first one. Simple, but so useful.

Hall passes. I have made them with an owl theme (of course).  I will be making more with other themes.

I can't wait to use these!

True/False Math Game/Activity

I am so excited to share this with you. 

We use Investigations in our school. I LOVE< LOVE>LOVE it!

There are many times in first grade when True/False activities come up. 

I don't think my firsties are that ready for it when it shows up. 

So, I created a product to help introduce True/False and practice the skill. 

My firsties know how to do this in a snap after working with this. :)

They LOVE it!

Students place all pieces face up. Student one chooses numbers to make an equation (either true or false) and places them on the sheet. Student two makes a decision whether it is true or false and chooses a T or F card. Both students decide if the answer is correct and record it on the recording sheet.

Daily Five and CAFE...My Journey Continues

As some of you know I am taking a graduate course on Daily Five and CAFE. 

It has been the best thing for me this summer. It is a lot of work and thinking (which I don't do very well in the summertime) :). I am so excited to implement the entire thing next school year. 

Here is a little background of my Daily Five experience in my classroom. 

I bought the book, read it a little, and decided to implement it into my classroom. I can do this....it's not rocket science. Well, I did it, not very well, but I did it.

I tried to start with Read to Self and add in Read to Someone. Little did I know that you actually had to REALLY model and practice and practice and model and practice...you get it right?

Looking back on my first year, I definitely would have done it differently, but I know now that I wouldn't be at the point I am now. Hmmmm? 

I ended up being out of school for most of November, December and January for back surgery. My substitute did not continue my lackadaisical way of doing Daily Five...THANK GOODNESS!!! I came back mid-January and tried it again. It worked...kind of. :) At least I was learning from it. 

The next year I read the book (what a great idea!!!) and tried it again. It was better, but there were some things I felt were missing. I had implemented each part of the Daily Five, but what was missing. I didn't find out until I took my grad. course, read the book for the third time, and actually GET what it is all about what was missing. 

My biggest A HA moment happened when I really got into the chapters and really read the book. 

Here is my epiphany: (one of them) :)

You don't sit at the back Guided Reading table and have the kids work for 90 minutes.

REALLY????

That's what I was missing. That little (well, not so little) piece for Daily Five. 

Kids can't work for 90 minutes straight and make their own choices about when to switch. 

I cannot wait to go back this school year and REALLY do this well. 

I created a little product for my classroom to share with you. 

I am obsessed with owls and obviously Daily Five. So, I thought I would combine them.

Monday, It's Math Time/ Special in my TpT Store

Well, here I am at home nursing a cold. I don't think I have sneezed this much in one day...since...ever!!!

I have at least two kiddos out with strep in my classroom. Uh Oh! Can we make it to spring break???

Well, since I was home, I thought I would complete some of my products I have been working on. The first one is a Tens, Go Fish game. We play this one with our Investigations math program. I love it!

I thought I would make it a little more fun for the kiddos and match it to the season.

Since Easter is coming up so quickly, I made some cards to go with Easter.

It is such a fun game. It gets my firsties to really know their facts to 10 which is so important. I have noticed the more they play, the faster they are with their addition facts. There are other games I have them play also. I will be adding them a little while later.

Right now I need to finish up my Pre-Observation form. My colleague and I worked on it for SIX hours!!! Now I just have to type it up. AND I have not even worked on my lesson plan. UGH!!

Updated Unit...Just in Time for President's Day and a Freebie

I have updated my John, Paul, George, and Ben Literacy Packet.

I have added more vocabulary pages, changed some of the font to make it easier to read and added some pages with QR codes to use for research. My kiddos have had so much fun working on this last week. They love using the iPads to get information they can use!

A Little Revisiting
