Daily 5 Graduate Class

I am taking a graduate class with my colleague, Linda.
Did I tell you that she is moving down to teach first grade with me next year???? I am so excited! I think I might burst. We began teaching 2nd grade together. I remember the long nights we had working in our classrooms to make it perfect for our students. Well, since then I have moved around to 1st, 4th, and now back down to 1st again. An opening came up on our team and voila...we are back together again. Wooo Hooo!!!
What was this post suppose to be about...oh yes...Daily 5.
We are just about done with the first book, The Daily 5 Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades. This has taken us three weeks. Talk about bombarding us with information.
It's a good thing Linda and I have been trying this for three years now. :)
I will just share some A-Ha moments with you. I do not consider myself to be an expert by any means. I began implementing the Daily 5 three years ago. I did it half-heartedly. I had not taken any classes. I was just going along with the book.
By the way, the book is so easy to read! :)
I ended up hurting my back so badly that year that I had surgery and was out for two months. Well, this did not bode well for Daily 5 in my classroom that year. I tried it the next year with a little more success. I had even taken an inservice for it. Last year, I went right "by the book". It worked really well in my classroom. Well, at least by my standards.
Now that I am taking this course, there are so many other things I had missed in the book. I swear every time I read it I get something more out of it. :)
So, I will give you my top 10 list of A-Ha Moments from this class so far.

I am enjoying this class so much! I am learning so much!
Stay tuned for some freebies. :)

Janie and I had so much fun with this!
She turns 14 on Sunday.
Goodness!

My son passed his driver's test on Wednesday. This was his first time driving without an adult.
AHHHHHHH!
PS> He's actually a very good driver. :)

My friend and I are doing a wedding in two weeks. We took her daughter to the venue to practice.
I am so excited!

Not only do we have a new driver, a 14 year old...but we have an 18 year old too!!!

She got a new guitar for her birthday. She has to have it for college. They had to fix it at the shop so, I took a picture of the stand. Just as nice huh?!>

I hope you enjoyed looking into my little snapshots for the week.
Have a wonderful day!

Alphabet Exchange

If you saw my alphabet letters from last year's alphabet exchange you would understand why I am so excited about this year's exchange.

I moved them when we got all of them up to our regular alphabet train in the front of the room. The kids were so excited when we got each envelope and read where each letter came from and the class that made them. You could tell when we got an envelope in the mail because I would be skipping down the hall. :)
You can click on the link above to go to Chrissy's blog and sign up for this year.

I have to apologize for not posting so much. I am taking a graduate class and it is taking a lot of time (as it should). I have to get myself into a routine. :)
It's a graduate course on Daily 5 and CAFE. I am so excited about it.

Well, that and...a concert.

We had so much fun going to our annual Phish show.

Have a wonderful day!

July Currently

Oh YEAH! I am linking up with Farley again.

Head on over to her blog and link up. I LOVE reading what everyone else is up to.
Here is my July Currently...

I LOVE getting up in the morning. It is my favorite time. I sit and have my cup(s) of coffee and listen to the outside. We live out in the country so there are no traffic sounds.  Well, maybe the occasional tractor going up the hill. I just listen to the sounds of the birds singing. And then my chickens will come out and I'll here my favorite rooster trying to crow. I'll have to get him on video. He sounds like a teenage boy. :)

Here are our new residents. They have the most beautiful songs.

I began summer vacation last week, but I was preparing for my daughter's graduation party. So...now let vacation begin!
~*~*~*~*~

So sad. :(
~*~*~*~*~

I can't seem to sleep in. From 3:45am to 4:45am I lay in my bed thinking of all the things I have to do. Then I give in and get up. Well, at least I get things done.
~*~*~*~*~

I begin my Daily 5 and Daily Cafe course today. I am so excited!
~*~*~*~*~

I find that if I put too much pressure on myself about blogging I don't enjoy my posts as much. Lately, I have been taking some time off and enjoying my family and friends. It seems like such a simple thing, but I was so crazy if I didn't post something. Don't get me wrong, I still go a little crazy when it has been a couple days. :) I LOVE blogging and stalking other blogs.
I have made a plan up for the week. This seems to help me be a little more calm. :)

Have a wonderful day!
Happy July!!!
